ශ්‍රී LankaNZ is a free distributed Sri Lankan Community Newspaper that aims to reach a Sri Lankan population of over 18,000 all over New Zealand. The demand for entertainment in literacy media itself gave birth to ශ්‍රී LankaNZ

For the 13th successive year, Sri Lanka Association of  NZ successfully held the ‘Sri Lanka Quiz Night 2023′ at the Tawa Community Centre on the 12th of August 2023. Over eighty enthusiastic participants, including the competing teams, judges, and organizing committee, witnessed the event. There were eight adult-quiz teams and three-children quiz teams competing at the event.

The adult teams’ demographics varied from passionate individuals in their twenties to elders over eighty. Moreover, the Kiwi experience of the participants varied from two months in New Zealand to more than fifty-three years. The high diversity of demography and Kiwi exposure created a thrilling experience for all participants on the Quiz framed in ten rounds themed around history, geography, arts & culture, politics, sports, Sri Lankan structures, pictorials, Sri Lanka First and a lucky number drawing session that led to a random pool of questions.

This year, the adult quiz tables were named after the Sri Lankan Kings & Queens, and the junior tables were named after Princes & Princesses. After a highly competitive ten rounds, the ‘Dutugamunu’ became the winning team. The winning team of the children’s Quiz was ‘Saliya.’ The Quiz offered the opportunity to utilize knowledge of Lanka Matha within our participants in an appealing competitive manner that boosted the team spirit, refreshing memories of Sri Lanka, and enjoyment of experiencing a fascinating Sri Lankan event that never goes away from our memories. Also, there were lucky winners of a raffle, and the first place went to a participant from Palmerston North. Thus, the event is famous beyond the Wellingtonians. As commented by the participants of the winning team, they were amazed at the high quality and the professional way the Quiz was conducted.

Overall, SLANZ QUIZ extended a truly Sri Lankan exposure to all who attended at a very affordable cost. There were pizzas, snacks, tea, and coffee. The quiz masters of the event were Mr. Athula Wanasinghe and Visharadha Indeewari Ratnayake. Lakdiv Supermarket (Wellington), Noel Leeming, The Trust House Foundation and Shehan Saparamadu (Insurance Advisor) were the graceful sponsors of the event. We request that whoever missed this time to attend next time. The SLANZ management committee is so grateful for the support received from all the Quiz enthusiasts who attended the Quiz.
