Dr. Anne Doloras Perera, who appeared a few times in our earlier issues, won the ‘J C Andrews Award’ in 2022. Interestingly, she is the second Sri Lankan to win this since the start of the award in 1967, the first being Professor Conrad Perera, her husband.
‘J C Andrews Award, ‘the Institute’s most prestigious award, is presented annually in memory of Massey University’s first Chancellor, Dr. John Clark Andrews,’ The New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology (NZIFST) mentions on its website. ‘…The award recognises senior Institute members who have made a substantial contribution to science and technology and leadership in the food industry.’

Dr Anne, identified as a truly global person by the Sri LankaNZ, has worked for the food industry in seven countries, starting from Sri Lanka, then India, USA, Brazil, Singapore, Tanzania and New Zealand. Having graduated from the University of Peradeniya, BSc (hons) in Agriculture, she did her masters under Food and Agricultural Organisation in India, and then Ph D at Oregon State University, After working for four years in Brazil, she moved with her husband, Dr Conrad, to New Zealand in 1981. Dr Anne completed an Executive MBA at Massey University. She has authored the books titled, ‘Nutrition 2000,’ ‘Hot Potatoes & Cool Bananas’ and ‘Thank You for being My Father’.
